SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  Senior Vice President and Director of Research for the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland Dr. Mark Sniderman will be the keynote speaker when Slippery Rock University’s College of Business, Information and Social Sciences hosts its annual “School of Business Week” and “Communication Week” programs open to the campus and community beginning Monday [March 22].

Sniderman is responsible for the Federal Reserve’s research department and oversees production of research publications and directs the bank’s economic and monetary policy analysis. In addition, he has senior management responsibilities for the bank's corporate communications and community affairs department.

The author of numerous financial analysis reports, Sniderman will deliver his address at the School of Business Economic Outlook Breakfast set for Wednesday [March 24] in Boozel Dining Hall. Invitations have been issued and those interested in attending are asked to call 724-738-2008. The day will also include four workshops for local business leaders and students as part of “Community Business Outreach Day” being held at the University’s Center for Lifelong and Community Learning. Sign up is being accepted at 724-738-2551.

A member of the senior management committee of the Cleveland Fed, Sniderman also chairs the Federal Reserve System's Business Steering Group for Personal Computing Services and the committee on research automation.

A Youngstown native, he joined the bank's research department as an economist in 1976, was promoted to senior economist in 1978, economic advisor in 1979 and assistant vice president in 1983. He became vice president and associate director of research in 1986 and assumed his current position in 1994. He holds a bachelor's degree from Case Western Reserve University and master's and doctoral degrees in economics from the University of Wisconsin, where he held teaching and research positions as a graduate student.

“Communication Week” opens on Tuesday [March 23] with a series of lectures open to the campus. Jim Raykie, Jr., editor of The Herald in nearby Sharon, will discuss the craft of community journalism, technology in journalism and the role of the journalist at 12:30 p.m. in Room 11 of the Eisenberg Classroom Building. At noon on Wednesday [March 24], Jim Winner, owner of Winner Advertising and Advisors and a recipient of an honorary SRU doctoral degree, will talk about business in the year 2004, what it is like to be your own boss, and marketing and your most important product, in Room 203 of Eisenberg.
