SCHOOL OF BUSINESS WEEK, COMMUNICATION WEEK TO
PROVIDE
STUDENTS, COMMUNITY ADDED ACESS TO
EXPERTS
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Senior Vice President
and Director of Research for the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland
Dr. Mark Sniderman will be the keynote speaker when Slippery Rock
University’s College of Business, Information and Social
Sciences hosts its annual “School of Business Week” and
“Communication Week” programs open to the campus and
community beginning Monday [March 22].
Sniderman
is responsible for the Federal Reserve’s research department
and oversees production of research publications and directs the
bank’s economic and monetary policy analysis. In addition, he
has senior management responsibilities for the bank's corporate
communications and community affairs department.
The
author of numerous financial analysis reports, Sniderman will
deliver his address at the School of Business Economic Outlook
Breakfast set for Wednesday [March 24] in Boozel Dining Hall.
Invitations have been issued and those interested in attending are
asked to call 724-738-2008. The day will also include four
workshops for local business leaders and students as part of
“Community Business Outreach Day” being held at the
University’s Center for Lifelong and Community Learning. Sign

A member of the senior management committee
of the Cleveland Fed, Sniderman also chairs the Federal Reserve
System's Business Steering Group for Personal Computing Services
and the committee on research automation.
A Youngstown native, he joined the bank's
research department as an economist in 1976, was promoted to senior
economist in 1978, economic advisor in 1979 and assistant vice
president in 1983. He became vice president and associate director
of research in 1986 and assumed his current position in 1994. He
holds a bachelor's degree from Case Western Reserve University and
master's and doctoral degrees in economics from the University of
Wisconsin, where he held teaching and research positions as a
graduate student.
“Communication
Week” opens on Tuesday [March 23] with a series of lectures
open to the campus. Jim Raykie, Jr., editor of The Herald in nearby
Sharon, will discuss the craft of community journalism, technology
in journalism and the role of the journalist at 12:30 p.m. in Room
11 of the Eisenberg Classroom Building. At noon on Wednesday [March
24], Jim Winner, owner of Winner Advertising and Advisors and a
recipient of an honorary SRU doctoral degree, will talk about
business in the year 2004, what it is like to be your own boss, and
marketing and your most important product, in Room 203 of
Eisenberg.
The
college’s two academic areas will combine efforts at 12:30
p.m. Thursday [March 25] to present Scott Dietz, project
coordinator for workforce education and development for the
Pittsburgh Technology Council, in Room 111, Eisenberg, as he
discusses the importance of networking, why workers network and
offers tips on how to network.
On
March 26, “Business Week” concludes with “Faculty
Leadership Day,” and on March 27, “Communication
Week” conclude with a 6 p.m. Honors Banquet in the University
Club of North Hall.
