SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Forty-four students from diverse academic fields are presenting at SRU’s Symposium for Research and Scholarship, a hallmark event that highlights the outstanding academic accomplishments of undergraduate and graduate students. The symposium is Thursday and Friday [March 25-26.]

Public events:

Local agriculture, organic cuisine and sustainable food production will be the focus of the Good Food Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in Boozel Dining Hall.  Entrees include meat, vegan and vegetarian options. Price is $4 for students, $5 for all others attendees. Tickets may be bought at the door.

Dr. Joan Fox, director of the Center for Integrative Medicine at The Cleveland Clinic, and professor of physiology and biophysics at Case Western Reserve University, will delivered the keynote address at 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Boozel Dinning Hall. It is titled  “Reconnections: High-tech science meets ancient wisdom.”

During the symposium, SRU students will summarize their research and projects, take in the keynote lecture on high-tech science and the sustainable lunch. Some of their projects include a dance symposium, writing workshop and good foods luncheon featuring ingredients produced on nearby farms.

Students’ research will be published in the Journal of Scholarly Endeavor, said Dr. Patrick Burkhart, associate professor of geography, geology and the environment, and organizer of the symposium.
