DANCER INVITED TO PERFORM AT WASHINGTON, D.C.’S KENNEDY
CENTER IN JUNE
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Francie Lloyd, a
senior dance major at Slippery Rock University, was recently
selected to perform her solo choreography for the American College
Dance Festival at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in
Washington, D.C., June 1-3.
Lloyd’s work was one of the
three chosen to move forward to the Kennedy Center at the American
College Dance Festival held at Slippery Rock University March
10-14. Out of 40 works from 25 universities, her work was selected
as one of 11 dances to appear on the regional gala concert.
From the 11, three were selected for the Kennedy
Center.
Lloyd, of Monongahela, was
also nominated for Dance Magazine’s Outstanding Student
Choreographer Award, which entails a $1,000 cash
prize.
Lloyd’s solo
“The Lady of the Lake” explores the dancer’s
transformation into the Greek goddess of water with its provocative
phrasework and submersion in a 60-gallon tank of water.
“We are very proud of Francie and know that
she deserves to be showcased at the Kennedy Center. The
responses to her dance and dancing ability are unparalleled,”
said Nora Ambrosio, dance department chair.
After May graduation, Lloyd
plans to pursue a career in performance and choreography in New
York City.
