SRU TO OFFER HIP-HOP WEEK WITH SPOTLIGHT ON MUSIC, POETRY APRIL 17-26

           SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The popular hip-hop band Ludacris, and a special guest, will highlight “Hip-Hop Week” at Slippery Rock University as student organizations examine how the current fad is affecting poetry, music and today’s campus culture April 17-26.

Ludacris will play at 8 p.m. April 26 in the Robert N. Aebersold Student Recreation Center. Tickets are $17 for SRU students and $27 for non-students and may be purchased in the University Union or charged through the SGA Bookstore at 724-738-2104.  All tickets will be $27 at the door.

           The concert is sponsored by SRU’s University Program Board and the Black Action Society.

 The week opens with a kickoff party at 10 p.m. April 17 featuring GQ of WAMO 106.7 FM Morning Show at the SRU Ski Lodge. Admission is free, but a photo ID is required.

 A “Def Poetry Jam” featuring Abyss, a spoken word artist, is set for 7 p.m. April 19 in the Rocky’s Den of the University Union, and an Open Forum: Hip-Hop and Its Effect on Culture will be held at 7 p.m. April 20 in the University Union.

 Stunt 101: Hip-Hop Week Fashion Show will be held at 8 p.m. April 21 in the Maltby Center’s Sheehy Theater, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 22 an airbrush artist will be available in the University Union Lobby to decorate shirts, shoes, jeans and hats.

            At 8 p.m. April 23 a freeYO”-style open mic night will be held in the University Union Lobby, allowing student to show their own talents in poetry reading, singing or other musical entertainment.

           A “Splash Waterfalls Afterparty” will conclude the week again featuring WAMO’s GQ at 10 p.m. in the University Union. Admission is $5 (higher after midnight). Photo ID required for admission.
