A quick reminder
that with the unending search for Middle East peace dominating the
news, your readers/listeners/viewers may be interested in hearing
from Timothy P. Wilson, a 1962 Slippery Rock University graduate
and now camp director for the nationally spotlighted Seeds of Peace
program. Mr. Wilson will be on the SRU campus Friday [April 3] in
preparation for his 2 p.m. Sunday address at the university’s
annual Academic Honors Convocation set for in Morrow Field
House.
Seeds of
Peace is working to bring peace to the Middle East by bringing
Israeli and Palestinian teens – and those from other
neighboring countries – together to develop friendships in
the hope those friendships will lead to a peace solutions
throughout the region. Each summer since 1993, following the
original World Trade Center bombing, the camp has met in Maine to
give the teens a chance to know one another – and to develop
bonds.
The organization
and Mr. Wilson have been spotlighted on CBS’ “60
Minutes” as well as in major newspapers across the country.
We will make Mr. Wilson available for interviews on Friday
afternoon and welcome your attendance.
Mr. Wilson
was named a recipient of SRU’s Outstanding Alumni Award in
1976. As part of his campus visit he will meet with faculty,
students, student leaders and administration officials. Academic
Honors Convocation honors SRU’s academic honoraries, students
attaining a perfect 4.0 grade-point average, dean’s list
students, scholar-athletes, outstanding community service
participants and those recognized as SRU’s Presidential
Scholars from the sophomore, junior and senior classes. Scholarship
recipients and those who make scholarships possible will be
honored, and the President’s Award for Excellence will be
presented.
