EDITOR’S ADVISORY                                   4/22/04

Two items of interest for your readers/viewers/listeners:

EVENT #1 -- Friday

The SRU Relay for Life, a 24-hour event designed to increase cancer awareness, kicks off at 4 p.m. Friday [April 23] on the SRU campus. The opening event is a “Cancer Survivor’s Walk.” Activities, at the Old Thompson Field, located behind Morrow Field House, continues through 4 p.m. Saturday including bands and other entertainment. The relay is chaired by Emelie J. McFarland, of Central Receiving, herself a cancer survivor. The event offers a wealth of photo opportunities as students and community members walk the track and participate in the national fund raiser.

EVENT #2 – Saturday

SRU’s I Care House in New Castle, a community center for all ages, will hold a dedication and ribbon cutting at
1:30 p.m. Saturday {April 24], including dedication of Ebony Hall, the home’s hallway, which is being named in honor of the late Ebony Scott, one of the institute’s first AmeriCorps members who was instrumental in promoting the idea of a community center in New Castle. Brenda Scott, Ebony Scott’s mother, will be on hand to speak. A carnival for children and area families will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the house and garden followed by a 5 p.m. reception for SRU students who kept the I Care House dream alive and brought it to fruition. The day’s events will also offer feature photo opportunities.

Those planning to attend either of the events are asked to call 724-738-2199.
