WINNERS OF STUDENT CONDUCTOR COMPETITION TO DIRECT

SRU CONCERT BAND IN THURSDAY PERFORMANCE IN MILLER AUDITORIUM

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University music education majors Stacy Schermann of Pittsburgh and Courtney Geary of Bellefonte will conduct the SRU Concert Band during the annual Student Conductor’s Concert set for 8 p.m. Thursday [April 29] in Miller Auditorium.

Schermann will lead the band in Frank Ticheli’s “Cajun Folk Songs,” and Gear will conduct “Beowulf,” composed by W. Francis MacBeth from the literary classic. Both were selected in the Student Conductor’s Competition held earlier this semester.

The concert will also feature the band under the direction of conductor James Berry, assistant professor of music in works by Alfred Reed, Percy Grainger, Charles Ives and other composers.

Concert admission is $3 for the general public; SRU students free with ID.
