LOCAL ROOTS OF FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR EXPLORED MAY 11 AT HARMONY MUSEUM;

SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY’S DR. DAVID DIXON LEADS DISCUSSION

      SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University history Professor Dr. David Dixon will describe the local roots of the French and Indian War during a free program 7:30 p.m. Tuesday [May 11] at the Harmony Museum. The public is invited to help mark the 250th anniversary of the war.

 The conflict pitted colonial powers England and France in a battle for the Ohio country, which included western Pennsylvania. The governor of Virginia sent George Washington to the area in an attempt to force France out of what Britain considered its territory.

 Dixon says the conflict led to history’s first global conflict, the Seven Years’ War.

 The Harmony Museum is at 218 Mercer St., Harmony. Call 724-452-7341.
