SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Ten Slippery Rock University faculty have been awarded Presidential International Professional Development Grants by SRU President Robert Smith to use in presenting academic papers and reports in their areas of expertise at educational conferences around the world.

EDITOR'S ADVISORY: SRU to Host Camp SportsVision for Visually Impaired
Slippery Rock University’s status as a national hub for helping people with disabilities enters the spotlight Thursday and Friday [June 17-18] when 34 children with visual impairments or blindness -- from Pittsburgh, Erie, West Virginia, Toledo, Ohio and Philadelphia – participate in Camp SportsVision. Children ages 8 to 18 will try their hand at taekwondo, dancing, rock climbing and a special sport called goalball, which uses a ball with a bell.

Grove City County Market Owners Endow Scholarship at SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Dave and Vicki Knopp, owners of the Grove City County Market, a community-oriented grocery, have endowed the Grove City County Market Scholarship with a gift of $25,000 as part of The Campaign for Slippery Rock University. It is the second scholarship established by the couple to help area students attend SRU.

New Web Site to Help Nursing Students Improve Writing Skills
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A new Web site that provides access to a chatroom, reference l ibrary and tutors at a writing center is the latest tech-savvy tool for students in the collaborative Clarion/Edinboro/Slippery Rock Universities Master of Science in Nursing Program. The resources of this innovative program are also available to students enrolled in Slippery Rock University’s Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program.

SRU Alumni Association to See 130 Alumni on Campus for Weekend Events
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – More than 130 Slippery Rock University graduates begin arriving on campus Friday [June 18] to participate in the annual Alumni Weekend sponsored by the SRU Alumni Association which year is spotlighting the reunion classes of 1954, celebrating its 50th anniversary, and 1979, marking its 25th year.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s council of trustees today welcomed Dr. Robert M. Smith as the university’s 15th president at their regular quarterly meeting, with council chair Dr. Robert Marcus saying, “We have enjoyed a productive 17 months during your leadership as interim president, and we certainly look forward to working together with you on future projects at The Rock.”

Slippery Rock Farmers Market Sells Locally Grown Produce on Saturdays
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –The Slippery Rock Farmers Market, organized by SRU graduate students, is open for the 2004 season. Locally produced vegetables, eggs, meat, herbs, breads and honey will be sold 9 a.m. to noon each Saturday in the Java Rock Café parking lot on Franklin Street.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Children with visual impairments or blindness from across the region come to Slippery Rock University June 16-19 for Camp SportsVision, an event that increases their comfort level in competing in sports and expands their awareness of regional recreational opportunities.
