Praxis I Mathematics Registration Form

1.  The Slippery Rock University Center of the Collaborative for Excellence in Teacher Preparation in Pennsylvania (CETP-PA) will be conducting a series of Praxis I Mathematics workshops to prepare elementary and secondary education students for the Mathematics section of Praxis I.  The sessions will take place on three Saturdays starting on January 28, 2006, February 11, 2006 and February 18, 2006 and will last 3 hours, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  

 

The following CETP-endorsed courses are offered at Slippery Rock University:

  1. Concepts of Science I (PHYS 101)
  2. Teaching of Math (ELEC 342)
  3. Teaching Integrated Science and Mathematics (SEFE 676)
  4. Directed Field Experience in Secondary Mathematics and Science (SEFE 677)
  5. Environmental Geology (EGEO 100)
  6. Elementary Mathematics II (MATH 310)
  7. Elementary Geometry (MATH 118)

Summary of SRU goals for the CETP-PA project

  • Increase cooperation, communication, and understanding at SRU between faculty in the College of Education and faculty in the College of Health, Environment, and Science who teach education majors.
  • Establish a collaborative relationship with Butler County Community College regarding students who might transfer to SRU to become mathematics and science teachers.
  • Build on current work with teachers in elementary and secondary schools in order to improve field experience and student teaching for SRU students preparing to teach mathematics and science.
  • Recruit prospective mathematics and science teachers for grades K-12 through work with elementary and secondary schools and institutions of higher education.
