SRU PLANS ‘KEYS TO SUCCESS WEEK’ DETAILINGNETWORKING, MENTORING, COMMUNITY SERVICE

             SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  “Keys to Success Week,” a weeklong program dealing with getting a job, handling controversial issues, women’s networking, mentoring, professional dress, etiquette and civic engagement will be held Oct. 11-14 at Slippery Rock University.

          The week, organized by SRU’s Center for Student Leadership, opens at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 with “Straight A’s Won’t Get You the Job,” featuring Michael Poll discussing ways to create your own destiny and unlock your own potential. The free lecture will be presented in the University Union and is co-sponsored by the University Program Board.

          “Handling Controversial Issues,” sponsored by the SRU National Coalition Building Institute, will be held to offer suggestions for dealing with controversial issues at a 5 p.m. session in the University Union. At 7 p.m. Oct. 12, a “Professional Dress Fashion Show” will be held in the University Union with SRU students modeling professional attire in an event sponsored by the Interfraternity, Panhellenic and Pan-Hellenic councils.

          The annual “HealthFest 2004” set for 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 12 will offer exhibits, health, screenings, presentations and performances related to all dimensions of wellness in the Robert N. Aebersold Student Recreation Center.

          A “Women’s Networking and Mentoring Reception” will be held at 5 p.m. Oct. 13 in the University Club of North Hall allowing upperclass women to join SRU alumnae in a discussion of career issues and related areas. Reservations may be made by calling 724-738-2092.

          Displays showing strategies for success, including the co-curricular transcript program, resume services available from the offices of Career Services and Graduate Studies, the Community, Service-Learning and Nonprofit Leadership Institute among others will be offered at a “Success Fair” from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Oct. 14 in the University Union Lobby.

          A “Civic Engagement Panel” focusing on community involvement as the key to success and including such topics as voting, community service and civic responsibility will be offered at 4 p.m. Oct. 14 in the University Union.

          The film “The Secret of My Success” will be covered throughout the week on the campus residence hall movie network and on Oct. 27 a dinner providing details on proper etiquette will be held at 5 p.m. in the University Club. Tickets are .
