Slippery Rock University Pride Center

 Get Involved!

We invite you to connect with other members of the local community through one of many groups that welcome, support, and advocate for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual individuals and their allies.

Student Organizations
RockOUT is the student lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and ally organization at Slippery Rock University. We create a safe place for you to be yourself. We educate ourselves, the campus, and the community on LGBT issues. Everyone is welcome to attend - allies are included. An ally is a self-identified straight individual who supports members of the LGBT community through friendship and advocacy. All meetings are confidential. Any and all information shared at RockOUT is in confidence. Every first time attendee is required to sign a confidentiality form stating that they will not share personal information about anyone that is shared at the meeting.

Slippery Rock University students organize around and celebrate diversity in many aspects. While RockOUT is currently the only student organization that focuses exclusively on gender identity and sexual orientation, people of all backgrounds are invited to take part in Building Bridges, the NAACP Chapter at SRU, the SRU RESPECT Team, and the Student Union for Multicultural Affairs (SUMA).

The President's Commission on Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation is charged with leading and creating a campus community that respects, welcomes, and celebrates all aspects of gender identity and sexual orientation. Commission members represent faculty, staff, and students from all parts of the University and are appointed to serve a two-year term by the President. Individuals interested in serving on the Commission are encouraged to submit a letter of interest to the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (305 Old Main). Letters are accepted at the end of each spring semester, and those chosen to serve on the Commission will be notified over the summer.

Butler PFLAG is a local chapter of PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). Butler PFLAG is the only LGBT focused organization in Butler County, and they are committed to engaging the community and advancing the civil rights of LGBT people. Other western Pennsylvania chapters of PFLAG include PFLAG Pittsburgh, PFLAG New Castle, PFLAG Erie and Crawford Counties, PFLAG of Indiana, PA, and PFLAG Greensburg.

Persad Center
Persad Center is "the nation's second oldest licensed counseling center" serving specifically the LGBT community. Additionally, Persad Center is a designated AIDS Service Organization and provides services to the HIV/AIDS community.

The Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh
The Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh "produces events and supports projects that help make [the Pittsburgh metropolitan area] a vibrant and exciting city that is attractive to the LGBT community." It is the organization behind the annual Pride in the Street event in downtown Pittsburgh.

The GLCC of Pittsburgh
The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Pittsburgh is active in providing "LGBT individuals, their families and supporters in Western Pennsylvania with resources and opportunities to promote visibility, understanding, and equality."
