SRU CAMPUSWIDE FOOD DRIVE SET FOR NOV.
15-22;
HELP SOUGHT FROM MORE THAN 100 CAMPUS
ORGANIZATIONS
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– A committee of students, faculty and staff at Slippery Rock
University has organized a campuswide food drive for Nov. 15-22,
open to everyone on campus and community residents. The Feed My
Sheep Cupboard, based in Slippery Rock and other agencies will
distribute the food.
Organizers set
up collections bins for non-perishable food all major classroom
buildings, as well as Bailey Library.
The College of
Education has sponsored its own food drive for the past three years
but the scoop was expanded this year as a means for conveying to
students the importance of community service. It supports
SRU’s mission statement: Slippery Rock University will excel
as a caring community of lifelong learners connecting to the
world.
Student Blythe
McDanel, a senior, said she asked 120 campus organizations to
participate. “Hunger is a problem, but ignorance is even a
larger one,” the communication major from Beaver Falls said.
“This project has never tried to incorporate a service3
project that could potentially get the entire campus to
participate.”
