SRU
‘LIGHT UP NIGHT’ TO FOCUS ON WORLD
HUNGER
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s
Association of Residence Hall Students will sponsor its
19th annual “Light Up Night” signaling the
traditional opening of the holiday season by joining in with the
annual “Empty Bowls” lunch and dinner in focusing on
world hunger.
The event, set for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 22 in the
courtyard of North Hall, is being held following the conclusion of
the Empty Bowls dinner which serves soup and bread from 11:30 a.m.
to 1 p.m. and 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the University Union. Empty Bowls,
a project of SRU’s Institute for Community, Service-Learning
and Nonprofit Leadership, focuses local attention on national and
world hunger. Those participating in “Light Up Night”
are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for donation to the
Feed My Sheep Food Cupboard.
The
North Hall festivities include a presentation from the Slippery
Rock High School Choir and remarks by SRU administrators. Cookies
and hot chocolate will be provided.
