For Your Students and Classes

    Search by department for appropriate databases, websites, and other resources.

  • Electronic Reserves
    We can digitize articles, book chapters, old tests, lecture notes, and place them online for your class.

  • Online Tutorials
    Infuse your course with technology! Three modules are available for your students to learn how to evaluate web sites, find online journal articles, and SRU books

  • Research.Com
    May we suggest that you recommend this one credit self paced online course to your students? The course introduces the principles of information literacy, basic technology skills in the Slippery Rock University environment, and the resources of the University Library. Students will learn to locate, evaluate, and apply information from print and electronic sources.

    Use this site to create your own database for importing references from online databases, then use the references in writing papers.  It automatically formats the paper and the bibliography in seconds.

  • Use Durable URLs of Journal Articles
    Link full-text journal articles from EbscoHost, ProQuest, or InfoTrac to your homepage for student reading assignments.

  • Information for Students in Distributed/Distance Education Classes
    Teaching a distance ed class? Please let your students know about this link.

  • Web Sites by Subject
    Several hundred pre-selected sites geared toward class assignments and courses. We welcome any suggestions for additions.

  • Instruction
    Reference library faculty are available to teach undergraduate and graduate students in our electronic classroom. Classes are tailored to the individual class.

  • Plagiarism: the Plague of the Internet Age
    This guide provides information on what to look for, preventative measures, and a listing of sources for additional information.

  • Copyright Information
    The Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17 USC) and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) govern copyright protection of electronic documents and information.

  • Book Films and Videos From Other Institution
    View a listing of the online rental catalogs of media collections maintained by various universities and agencies.  Faculty wishing to rent 16mm films or videos should contact the site directly. Procedures and policy vary; please consult the catalogs for directions on delivery, payment and return.


    For Your Research

  • Borrow Books Directly
    Borrow books directly from other libraries including the University of Pittsburgh, Penn State, and Carnegie Mellon. The books will be sent to Bailey library.

  • Renew Your Books Online
    To renew your materials online, please follow these simple instructions.

  • On-Site Borrowing Available to SRU Faculty
    If you plan to visit another academic library to do research you have access to direct borrowing privileges from school such as CMU, Duquesne, and Hillman library at the University of Pittsburgh.

  • Desktop Delivery of Microforms
    We can deliver scanned articles from SRU microforms to you via email. Forms, which will soon be available online, can be picked up at the Information Desk or the Serials Desk on the first floor.   • Library and Department Liaisons
    Bailey library provides Faculty Liaison Librarians for each department to enhance communication between the library and college faculty resulting in improved resources and services for all academic programs.

  • State Library Databases  http://academics.sru.edu/library/DBases/01_02_t.gif (9494 bytes)
    Databases for use by faculty and staff of the State System of Higher Education.  Most of these databases are not available through the Bailey Library website and many are discipline specific.

    FIRST TIME USERS NOTE:  You must have a state library card to use this service.  Go to Sevices to State Government and fill out the online form to apply for a library card. Within five business days, you should receive a state library card.  The barcode on the back is your password. 11/2/04

  • Trial Databases
    We welcome your evaluation of our trial databases. This information will be useful in helping us to decide whether or not to purchase and add these online resource. We currently subscribe to over 90 databases on a variety of subjects.
