» Gender Sterotying of Women Subject of Dance Faculty Performance in Pittsburgh
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University dance faculty Jennifer Keller will perform “Political Reflex,” a dance concert addressing gender stereotyping, at 8 p.m. Oct. 19-20 in Pittsburgh’s Kelly-Strayhorn Theater.

» Three from SRU Music Faculty to Join Butler County Symphony Orchestra
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University music faculty Nanette Kaplan Solomon, Warren Davidson and Paula Tuttle will join the Butler County Symphony Orchestra Oct. 15 to open the symphony’s 57th season with a presentation of Beethoven’s “Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano in C.”

» SRU Jazz Ensemble to Salute Frank Sinatra in Opening Concert
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  A concert titled “Old Blue Eyes,” offering a tribute to famed Big Band singer Frank Sinatra will open Slippery Rock University’s Jazz Ensemble schedule, featuring Stephen Ball, an SRU voice major from Slippery Rock, when it performs at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday [Oct. 5] in the University Union.

» Russian Substance Abuse Counselors to Visit SRU to Exchange Ideas
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Three Russian substance abuse counselors and a medical school administrator visit Slippery Rock University Tuesday [Sept. 27] to exchange treatment and counseling methods, followed by a meeting with SRU’s Russian club.

» SRU Continues Enrollment Growth Sixth Year in a Row: Record Now 8,105
  SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – With an official enrollment number of 8,105, Slippery Rock University continues its sixth, straight academic year of enrollment increases, besting last year’s enrollment by 177 students and setting an all-time record. The year also finds an all-time record in credit hours undertaken standing at 113,156.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Dr. Glenn Utsch, assistant professor in Slippery Rock University’s music department, will offer a free Faculty Piano Recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday [Sept. 29] in the Swope Music Hall.

» SRU Receives $344,000 Grant to Support Community-Service Work
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s AmeriCorps Program received a $334,800 state grant today [Sept. 21] to provide money for students and local residents to serve at 15 schools and social-service organizations, including Habitat for Humanity.

» SRU's 'Locker Room of Champions's to be Dedicated Saturday
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University’s athletic department will dedicate its Locker Room of Champions campaign Saturday by saluting the 83 donors who have contributed nearly $125,000 to redesign and renovate the football locker room in N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

» SRU Computer Science Programs Earn 6 Prestigious Computing Accreditations
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University’s computer science department has received accreditation by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, Inc., the recognized accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology. The accreditation recognizes the departments program in computer science as well as five concentrations its information systems area.

 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  The Pennsylvania Percussive Arts Society will offer a “Day of Percussion” from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday [Sept. 18] in Swope Recital Hall, including world-famous drummer John Riley and performances by a Washington, D.C.,-based percussion duo and The Afro-Cuban Percussion Section, among others.

SANDY LAKE, Pa. – Wildlife paintings, nature photography, pottery and woodcarvings will be displayed when McKeever Environmental Learning Center hosts its Third Annual Nature Art Show Sept. 23-25. The dinning hall will remain open.

 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University’s council of trustees toured the university’s new Storm Harbor Equestrian Center, part of the Exercise and Rehabilitative Sciences Program, reviewed new academic accreditations and heard President Robert M. Smith report on several new global initiatives.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The newly erected 9/11 memorial at Slippery Rock University, donated by the class of 2004-05 and located on the across from the University Union, will be dedicated in ceremonies set for 2 p.m. Sunday -- Sept. 11 --  open to the entire campus and community.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The U.S. Supreme Court makes news often. On Sept. 16, Slippery Rock University students will tap into a national Webcast featuring Justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Stephen Breyer talking about the importance of the U.S. Constitution.

» 'Pow-Wow' Festival Set for Sept. 17-18 at SRU's Old Stone House
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Native-American crafts, art, song, dance and history will be showcased during the Old Stone House Pow-Wow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 17-18. Slippery Rock University owns and operates the Butler County landmark at the intersection of routes 8, 173 and 528 in Brady Township.
