TO DEDICATE NEWLY ERECTED 9/11 MEMORIAL ON SUNDAY
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The newly erected 9/11
memorial at Slippery Rock University, donated by the class of
2004-05 and located on the across from the University Union, will
be dedicated in ceremonies set for 2 p.m. Sunday -- Sept. 11
-- open to the entire campus and community.
The memorial features two, 10-foot tall,
stainless-steel slabs representing the twin towers of New York
City’s World Trade Center, the Pentagon in Washington., D.C.,
and Flight 93 that crashed outside of Shanksville in western
Pennsylvania. At night, two light beams, one from each tower,
project representing those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11,
2001, attacks.
The
dedication ceremony will include remarks from SRU President Robert
Smith and Lindsay Mcghee, former Student Government Association
vice president for advancement.
The
memorial was constructed over summer and was built with donations
from members of the 2004-05 class to mark the event that took place
at the start of their freshman year at SRU.
