In addition to teaching and coaching in the public schools, Dr. McKinley has been an active member of PSAHPERD for most of her professional career. While serving on numerous PSAHPERD committees, she was the 2002 PSAHPERD President. In addition to her state activities, Dr. McKinley serves as an educational consultant for the Pennsylvania Department of Education and school districts in numerous states. Her research interests focus on H/PE pedagogy, standards-based health and physical education teaching and creating a socially responsive pedagogy in the H/PE classroom.

Dr. McKinley plans on returning to Dublin, Ireland during the Fall semester of the 2008-2009 academic year with Slippery Rock University College of Education student teachers for six weeks. 1998-2003 Missouri Goals 2000 Educational Reform Committee national consultant.
Duties included: paper and on-site review of curricula in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) Programs throughout Missouri, review of PETE program according to DESE, NASPE/NCATE Standards, collaborative re-structuring of the student teaching component of undergraduate Physical Education teacher certification programs, training of university and public school personnel regarding implementation of the Teacher Center Model for the professional semester, national/regional/state presentations and publications, and research focusing on systemic change efforts in Goals 2000 efforts in Missouri.
1998-2003 Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), PSAHPERD Five-Year Review Project.
Duties included biannual on-site curricular review/interaction with public school H/PE faculty, paper curricular/policy review, and summary final report of HIV/AIDS, Health, and Physical Education curricula in selected school districts in Pennsylvania. Project approved for five year period, 1998-2003. Project funded 1998-2000. Funds removed for 2001-2003 due to budget cuts.

1999-2000 Butler Area School District, Butler, PA. Elementary and Secondary Physical Education curriculum review.
Duties included: paper review of the K-6 curriculum, collaboration with district elementary level physical educators and administrators, conduct four-day collaborative workshop designing program mission statement, constructing developmentally appropriate student performance abilities in compliance with NASPE/COPEC/PA standards, and design of assessments linking student performance to district physical education outcomes.
1999-2000 Sharon City Schools, Sharon, PA. Elementary Physical Education curriculum review.
Duties included review of the K-12 curriculum and policies, professional development day collaborative workshops focusing on curricular review with district physical educators and administration. Development of department mission statement, design of developmentally appropriate student performance abilities in compliance with NASPE/COPEC/PA standards, design assessments linking student performance to district physical education outcomes.
1996 Franklin Area Middle School health and science teachers, with Dr. Michael Cleary.
Duties included half-day seminar focusing on current HIV/AIDS curriculum issues, implementation of “real world” teaching strategies, and design and implementation of authentic assessments used in conjunction with HIV/AIDS instruction.
