Biography:
Robert E. Ogoreuc is an Assistant Professor in the Physical Education Department at Slippery Rock University. He also serves as Aquatic Director for the department overseeing the scheduling and operation of the lifeguards for academic classes. He received his B.S. in Health and Physical Education with an emphasis in Aquatic Administration at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in 1989, and earned his Master of Education degree in Physical Education and Athletic Administration at Slippery Rock University in 1996. He has also served as the Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach from 1991 to 2003. During the tenure he complied at record of 101-55-1 . His teams recorded three undefeated seasons, a PSAC Runner-Up finish, and numerous All-Americans. He earned the 1997 PSAC Men’s Coach of the Year and is an Indiana County Sports Hall of Fame Honoree.
He holds numerous certifications such as: American Red Cross, WSI-IT, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, YMCA Open Water Scuba Instructor, EMT-B and PA Fish and Boat Commission Boating Instructor to name a few. Mr. Ogoreuc has been the driving force in developing the Slippery Rock University Aquatic Minor. In 2005, Aquatic International Magazine recognized his efforts as one of the 25 Most Powerful People in Aquatics.In 2006 the AAHPERD honored him with the National Honor Award. He has also served on the board of Directors to the National Water Safety Congress and the National Drowning Prevention Alliance. He has also been recognized for his teaching efforts at SRU by receiving the William Herman Teaching Excellence award in 2002 and 2004. In 2002 he participated as a Scientific Diver for the Cambrian Foundations Commodore Project.
Mr. Ogoreuc has had the honor of working on the American Red Cross Water Safety Advisory Group that revised the Water Safety Instructors program in 2004. He has also worked as a Technical Reviewer for their Lifeguard Manuals. He has contributed to the United States Lifesaving Association, YMCA and StarGuard lifeguard textbooks. He also has made numerous presentations at the state, national and international conferences.
In addition to his work at Slippery Rock University he also serves as the Training Officer for the Ocean City Beach Patrol in New Jersey. In this capacity he is responsible for training all new and recurrent lifeguards and the Ocean City Fire Department in surf rescue. He works as a liaison between government and public safety agencies. He has developed a statewide Surf Rescue Program that is sponsored by the New Jersey State Police.
He resides in Grove City, PA with his wife Shelly, daughter Hannah, son Jack, and their Black Lab, Bear.
