Doctor of Physical Therapy Mission Statement

The GSPT at SRU will prepare physical therapists that demonstrate highly competent, evidenced-based practice and professional behaviors in a dynamic health care environment.  The graduates will be able to serve the health care needs of consumers and a global society while contributing to the advancement of the profession.

Doctor of Physical Therapy PROGRAM OUTCOMES

Graduates of the DPT program will be able to:

Professional Interaction

1.  Communicate with diverse patients/clients, groups and communities in formal and informal professional contexts for purposes of establishing professional relationships, education, counseling and collaboration.

Professional Decision Making

2.  Use knowledge derived from the biological, behavioral, and clinical sciences for clinical decision making.

Professional Competence

3.  Apply the patient/client management model holistically to patients/clients from diverse age, gender, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds to promote optimum health and function.

4.  Plan and execute research, disseminate research findings, and critically evaluate the professional literature to promote evidence-based practice.

5.  Demonstrate effective consultation, leadership and administration in physical therapy practice.

6.  Educate diverse patients/clients and groups using a variety of teaching methods commensurate

       with the needs and unique characteristics of the learner.
