NEW VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT LIFE
NAMED AT SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. --
Dr. Constance Foley has been named vice president for student life
at Slippery Rock University, effective July 1, 2006. “I
am very pleased Dr. Foley has accepted this position,” said
SRU President Robert M. Smith. “As assistant vice president
for student affairs at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton,
Fla., for the past eight years, she has helped direct strategic
planning for the development of the campus including new housing
construction and a major renovation of the student
union.”
“Dr.
Foley comes with a strong background in student learning outcomes
and has been responsible for multi-cultural affairs, university
police, campus bookstore and the campus volunteer center. She
also was chair of the subcommittee for gender equity and student
welfare as part of the university's recent athletic recertification
success. Her diverse leadership experiences are very
important to the eclectic nature of our student life
division,” Smith said.
“I am excited
about Dr. Foley's approach to collaboration with other divisions of
the university, an important hallmark of Slippery Rock University's
recent success,” Smith added. Her background includes
extensive experiences in working with academic affairs, financial
affairs, facilities, and advancement.
“From the first
time I saw the position advertisement, I was enthusiastic about
this opportunity,” Foley said. “Being from the Midwest,
I have been familiar with Slippery Rock, but as I learned more and
as I met the Slippery Rock people, especially the students, I felt
like I belonged. This is definitely where I want to
be.”
Foley
holds a doctorate from Arizona State University, masters from
Syracuse University and bachelor's degree in mathematics from the
University of Michigan. Previous to her work at FAU, she held
positions in residence life at Kent State University and the
University of San Francisco.
She replaces Dr.
Robert J. Watson, who is retiring March 31 after 34 years of
service to Slippery Rock University. He has been vice president for
student life since 2001.
