EXPERT ON MOZART TO VISIT CAMPUS
THURSDAY
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– Dr. Rainer Buland, professor of music at the world
famous Mozarteum University of Salzburg, will offer a free lecture
about Mozart's life and music, the time period in which he lived,
discuss what Mozart’s music means today and how it has
influenced not only Austrian music but the entire world of music,
when he visits Slippery Rock University at 1 p.m. Thursday [March
30].
The address will be
delivered in Swope Music Hall.
2006 marks the
world celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart, the most famous Austrian of all time. Music lovers
from all over will travel to Austria to attend special
celebrations, concert and opera performances. The visit is
sponsored by the Cultural Studies Academy, Inc., and SRU. Buland
has written a series of books on Mozart’s life and devoted
most of his adult life to understanding the social and cultural
trends that fostered the great music of the 18th
century.
