SUMMER/FALL REGISTRATION OPEN FOR COMMUNITY AT
SRU’S CHILD CARE CENTER
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– The Slippery Rock University Student Government
Association Preschool and Child Care Center is accepting summer and
fall student registration for full- and part-time youngsters from
across the community with special programs planned for those ages 3
to 5 and those ages 6 to 12, including such themes a computers,
growing a garden and creepy, crawly bugs.
The center,
accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young
Children and holding a four-star rating from the Keystone Stars
System, is directed by Lisa Ringer. Programs run 7:30 a.m. to 5
p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
“The
center was originally opened to help SRU students, faculty and
staff with young children while attending or teaching
classes,” Ringer explains, adding, “It quickly expanded
due to public demand for child care services in our area.”
She points out that in addition to the center’s regular
teaching staff, SRU students majoring in education lend a hand at
the facility, often as part of their class studies giving them
extra experience and the center’s children added
attention.
The daily
pre-school program makes use of art, music, gymnastics,
science/nature, literature, field trips, movement, computers, and
other age-appropriate topics. School age children participate in
swimming, gymnastics, computers, field trips, sports, games, crafts
and other activities.
For fall,
full- and part-time day programs in the preschool curriculum are
based on the Early Learning Standards developed by the Pennsylvania
Department of Education. Before- and after-school programs for
those ages 6 to 12 are also available and those attending Slippery
Rock Elementary School are provided bussing from their school to
the center.
For
additional details or registration forms, call the center at
724-738-2102.
