SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  Slippery Rock University’s homecoming weekend, set for Oct. 20-21, features a homecoming pep rally and concert with the Poverty Neck Hillbillies, a traditional homecoming parade through downtown Slippery Rock and the SRU football team taking on Lock Haven University.

The football game is set for 2 p.m. Oct. 21 in N. Kerr Thompson Stadium following the 10 a.m. parade from the Giant Eagle Parking Lot to Main Street and ending at the university. The day’s other athletic contest pits the SRU field hockey team against Mansfield at    10 a.m.

Opening events for the weekend, under the theme “ROCKtoberfest,” include a 6 p.m. Oct. 20 pep rally, featuring the SRU football team, cheerleaders and Marching Pride, under the direction of James Berry, assistant professor of music. The rally, complete with bonfire and fireworks, will be held on Old Thompson Field (or inside Morrow Field House in the event of rain). Crowning of this year’s homecoming king and queen will be part of the festivities.

The rock band “The Stickers” will play at 7:30 p.m. as the opening act for the Poverty Neck Hillbillies as part of the free concert on Thompson field.

In addition, the SRU Alumni Association will sponsor its “Annual Fall Classic Slippery Rock Golf Outing” at Stonewall Golf Club, Ellwood City. The shotgun start is set for 10 a.m. with proceeds helping fund the association’s student scholarship funds and the Russell Wright Alumni House Expansion Project. Call 724-738-2018 for details.
