Video installation to open
SRU¹s spring semester shows in Martha Gault Art
Gallery
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. A video installation by
Carolina Loyola-Garcia, a Chilean media artist working in the U.S.
as an assistant professor of media arts at Robert Morris
University, opens Slippery Rock University’s spring semester
art offerings in the Martha Gault Art Gallery.
The
show, located in SRU’s Maltby Center, runs Jan. 22 - Feb. 15,
with an artist’s reception planned for 6 - 8 p.m. opening
day.
Loyola-Garcia’s
work reflects upon such issues as biculturalism, language,
technology and post-colonialism, among other topics. Her work
ranges from single-channel videos to video installations or 2D
digital prints, and has been exhibited in festivals and art shows
nationally and internationally.
She
studied theater, film and video in Chile, and received her master
of fine arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University.
For
the past five years she has been teaching media arts as an adjunct
professor first at Pittsburgh Filmmakers, then Carlow College,
Carnegie Mellon University and University of New Mexico. She has
also served as non-resident
studio instructor for the Main College of Art MFA
program at Robert Morris. Her experience as an instructor has
allowed her to further study and develop in the field of electronic
and digital media finding ways to engage students in the
learning of both aesthetic and technical aspects
of this art form.
Gault
Gallery hours are, noon - 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and
2 - 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. (Closed weekends and
holidays.)
