TLTR Meeting Minutes

November 28, 2006

Attendance:

I.                    New Business

A.         Report from Collegis, Russ Dively

1.       Russ announced that he is leaving SRU the Collegis update expires Dec. 31, and the university is not renewing it.

2.       Technical Support will continue.

3.       Job search is in the final stages.

II.       Taskforces

A.         Grants- Reading and reviewing 7 grant applications which are asking for a total of $30,000, but only have $20,000 to give out. 

B.         Blackboard has met, and has availability of all online courses.

C.   Planning announced TLTR will need a new co-convener for next year.

D.  Citrix has met twice.  Leigh announced that a concurrent license is needed to run new software.  Can request software for a class.  Want to spread awareness of Citrix on campus. 

IV.  New Business

A.       Presenter was Mark Chase of the Communications Department.

B.       Presentation was titled “Facebook: The Social Communication Tool with Academic Applications.” 

C.      Uses Facebook, an online social networking program with his FYRST seminar students. 

D.      Gives students a chance to interact and communicate, as well as find common interests, with each other and their professor.

          E.  Students are placed into groups according to their courses. 

          F.  Mark has kept in touch with alumni through Facebook.

          G.  Discovered that the higher the QPA of the student, the more likely they are to have a Facebook account.  Also found out that students were more likely to ask him personal questions, concerning such topics as the counseling center and advisement through communication on Facebook.
