New
Business
A.
Report from Brian
Danielson- Blackboard
1.
Brian discussed some of
the problems that blackboard has been having-such as the tool bar
disappearing (at other colleges), courses listed as “unavailable,”
and students unable to open a file because spaces and characters
were put into the filename.
2.
Brian is currently
looking at all colleges who have courses that have been approved to
teach fully online.
B. Nominations
1. Call for nominations
for the 1st year co-convener for
TLTR. Nominations will be accepted from now to the
next
meeting.
C. New taskforce forming
1. Portable Technology- accepting new members.
II.
Taskforces
A
Grants/Planning- Able to offer more grants. The grants are to be
used for professional development, and some aspect of teaching,
learning, and technology. $8,000 is available. The
application deadline is March 5th.
B.
Blackboard- Forming a
forum to discuss issues and challenges with courses, as well as a
place to offer recommendations concerning the problems. Members
also previewed a demo of “Study mate,” a blackboard component which
takes word documents and test questions and makes interactive
games, such as crossword puzzles and hangman.
C.
Citrix- Have met with
Citrix representatives- saw some new products. Announced they
are going to have a training in Pittsburgh
D.
Assessment-
Professional development day proposal was accepted. Will be
presenting on E-folios at 1:00 in the room 119 of the Field House
on Professional Development day.
III.
Presentation.
A.
Presenters were
Leigh Forbes and Junko Yamamoto

Presentation was titled
“Creating Digital Sound Files to Address the Needs of Diverse
Learners.”
C.
Were awarded a TLTR
grant, and purchased head set microphones in order to show students
how to work with media in teaching.
D.
Junko presented
research on this subject, which she used to write her doctoral
dissertation. She studied technology with diverse populations, and
used the headphones as a tool for inclusion. Students were
instructed on how to use headphones as a media tool, and learned
how to make their own multi-media story, using their voices.
The students were also given a survey asking questions about
their own knowledge of technology as well as using technology as a
means of inclusion.

Next Meeting: March
20th, in room 133 of the ATSH building. The topic
is “Personal Computer Security,” and will be presented by Dave
Valentine and Frank Hulick.
