‘Vagina Monologues’ production raises $3,000 for two regional
women’s
shelters
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Lawrence County Shelter for
Victims of Abuse and the Butler County Victims Outreach
Intervention Center (Butler County VOICe) will share more than
$3,000 in proceeds from Slippery Rock University’s Women’s Studies
Program performances of Eve Ensler’s award-winning plan “The Vagina
Monologues.”
“We are so please that our production will be able to support the
important services offered by these two women’s organizations in
our area. Everyone who participated in the production, and those
who attended, should be proud of contributing to this effort,” said
Jace Condravy, professor of English and director of the Women’s
Studies Program.
The play, directed on campus and at the Regional Learning Alliance
by Susan Kelley, an English
major from Pittsburgh, drew more than 600 to the campus
performances and more than 100 to the Regional Learning Alliance
production in Cranberry.
The work deals with the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom,
outrage and excitement buried in women’s experiences. The original
production earned the Obie Award and was called “funny” and
“poignant” by The New York Times. The Daily News called it
“intelligent” and “courageous.”
