L. Smith called the meeting to order at 2:02 p.m.

 

I.  Old Business

 

A.  Approval of minutes from March 6, 2007

 

            A motion was called to approve the minutes from March 6, 2007

            First:  S. Parsons

            Second:  J. Snow

            All approved, motion passed. 

 

B.  Professional Studies

 

Request for approval of goal course in the Challenges of the Modern Age block:  Change Agents in Modern Society (73-360).  D. Tompkins represented course 73-360 to the Committee stating that the course name as well as the course assessment instruments had been changed according to Committee suggestions during the March 6 meeting.  Noting these changes, the Committee requested that D. Tompkins also submit a rubric with the course assessment plan.

 

A motion was called to approve Change Agents in Modern Society (73-360) pending the addition of a rubric.

Second:  J. Condravy

All approved, motion passed.

 

C.  Professional Studies

 

Request for approval of goal course in the Challenges of the Modern Age block:  Social and Ethical Issues in Philanthropy and Fundraising (73-325).  A. Kaiser-Drobney represented course 73-325 to the Committee stating that the course name, the course focus, and  the course rubric had been adjusted according to Committee suggestions during the March 6 meeting. 

 

A motion was called to approve Social and Ethical Issues in Philanthropy and Fundraising.

All approved, motion passed.

 

II.  New Business

 

A.  Geography, Geology, and the Environment

 

Request to approve existing goal course in the Science, Technology, and Mathematics block, Meteorology/Lab (34-121), through Distributed Education. J. Snow requested LSPC approval of course 34-121 for Distributed Education as well as LSPC approval of the course assessment plan.

 

A motion was called to approve requests for course 34-121, Meteorology/Lab.

First:  J. Condravy

Second:  S. Parsons

All approved, motion passed.

 

B.  Chemistry

 

Request to approve offering existing goal course in the Science, Technology, and Mathematics block, Introductory Chemistry I (12-104), through Distributed Education.   M. Sisak requested LSPC approval of course 12-104 for Distributed Education as well as LSPC approval of the course assessment plan.

 

A motion was called to approve requests for course 12-104, Introductory Chemistry I, with the addition of addressing specific liberal studies outcomes in the rubric.

First:  J. Condravy

Second:  S. Parsons

All approved, motion passed.

 

C.  Dance

 

As information only, T. Cobb informed the Committee that former liberal studies course 62-110, Beginning Folk, Square and Social Dance, will be deleted.

 

D.  Dance

 

Request for approval of Liberal Studies Assessment Plan for course 62-100, Introduction to Dance.  The Committee expressed concerns about the assessment plan for course 62-100.  Namely, they felt a rubric was needed to ensure successful assessment.  Similar concerns were expressed concerning the course assessment instruments.

 

A motion was called to table the request until further changes could be made.

Second:  J. Valencia

All approved, motion passed.

E.  Miscellaneous

 

J. Condravy informed the Committee that she would appreciate a volunteer to present the changes to the LSPC’s Rules and Procedures at the next Membership meeting.  S. Parsons volunteered to do so.
