College of Education graduate wins coveted Golden Apple Award

        

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Mary Smolter, a veteran with more than 20 years experience as a sixth-grade teacher at St. Alexis School in Wexford and a 1977 SRU graduate, has been named a 2007 Golden Apple Award winner. The award, presented by the Diocese of Pittsburgh, recognizes excellent performance in the classroom, church and community.

            In nominating Smolter for the award, her principal, Sister Patricia Montini, said, “I have witnessed this enormous dedication, professionalism and caring as she continually strives to serve each student so they can do their best.”    

            Smolter, an elementary education graduate, received her Golden Apple Award and a $5,000 grant at a recent ceremony.
