SRU’S ANNUAL
‘EMPTY BOWLS’ DINNER TO HELP SUPPORT THREE REGIONAL
FOOD CHARITIES
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Three area agencies involved
in feeding the needy will benefit from this year’s
“Empty Bowls” dinner set for Monday [Oct. 21] and
sponsored by Slippery Rock University’s Institute for
Community, Service Learning and Nonprofit Leadership.
Held
annually in October in the Multi-Purpose Room of the University
Union to remind regional residents of national and world hunger,
this year’s event will attempt to raise $5,000 for the Feed
My Sheep Food Shelter in Slippery Rock, the Butler Area Agency on
Aging, and the City Rescue Mission of New Castle. The sponsors also
work to make sure there are no citizens in Butler County on a
waiting list for home-delivered meals.
The
bread and soup meal is served in handcrafted bowls made by SRU and
local high school students. The bowls are taken home at the end of
the dinner to remind participants of global hunger. Entertainment
is provided during dinner. Soup i ngredients are donated by local
businesses and farms.
Seatings
are planned for 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. with tickets ($10 for adults and
$5 for students of all ages) available at the door or in advance at
the institute’s office in Spotts World Culture Building, from
the SGA Bookstore in the University Union, from campus residents
halls, and from Slippery Rock True Value Hardware.
