Ecology(Biol 401)
Ecology is a lecture and laboratory-based course intended as an elective for Biology majors, although majors in the Environmental Science program often enroll as well. The focus of the course is on the structure , composition and dynamics of ecosystems, and the laboratory exercises are largely field-oriented. Ecology is generally offered in the Fall semester of each year.

Animal Physiological Ecology(Biol 405)
This lecture course, along with the associated laboratory experience, explores the adaptations observed in animals that permit them to deal with special environmental situations. The course looks at these adaptations at a variety of levels ranging from biochemical to organismal. Animal Physiological Ecology is designed for Biology majors as an elective course, and is typically offered in the Spring term of odd-numbered years.

Animal Physiology(Biol 410)
Animal Physiology, with its associated laboratory experience, is an elective course for Biology majors and is required for majors in the Medical Technology and Cytotechnology programs. This course investigates basic animal physiological processes ranging from the molecular level to the cellular and organismal levels. Animal Physiology is generally offered in the Fall semester of each year.

Pathogenic Microbiology(Biol 430)
This course and the associated laboratory experience is intended as an elective course for Biology majors. The focus of Pathogenic Microbiology is on the role of microorganisms in causing disease, and the course will include discussions of pathogenesis, epidemiology and characteristics of the major groups of pathogenic bacteria that permit them to cause disease in the host organism. This new course is anticipated to be offered every other year in the Spring semester.

Biology Internship (Biol 450)
This course, which is intended as an elective for Biology majors, allows students to receive elective credit for experience obtained through jobs having a component applicable to the biological sciences. Examples of such jobs include work at hospitals, greenhouses, sewage plants, park services, fish and game commisions, veterinary offices/hospitals, as well as many others. Students interested in enrolling in this course should contact the chairperson of the Department of Biology to discuss the applicability of specific forms of employment.

Plant Physiology(Biol 451)
Plant Physiology is a lecture and laboratory-based course designed as an elective for Biology majors. Major topics covered in the course include plant nutrition, water relations, photosynthesis, hormaones and growth processes. Plant Physiology is typically offered in the Spring term of even-numbered years.

Plant Anatomy(Biol 465)
This course and the associated laboratory experience is designed as an elective for Biology majors. Plant Anatomy investigates the structure of higher plants at both the microscopic and macroscopic levels. Emphasis is placed on tissue and organ structure and development in a wide variety of plant groups.

Histology(Biol 470)
Histology lecture and the associated laboratory are intended as an elective course for Biology majors and are required for majors in the Cytotechnology program. This course focuses on the microscopic structure and arrangement of tissues in multicellular animals. Histology is typically offered in the Spring term of odd-numbered years.

Independent Study (Biol 490)
Independent Study is a required course for Biology majors pursuing the independent study option of the Bachelor of Science in Biology degree. This course involves the proposal and completion of an independent research project under the guidance of a faculty member, and is offered every semester.

Seminar(Biol 492)
Seminar is intended for junior and senior-level Biology majors and is a required course majors pursuing the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biology. Generally offered every semester, students study an area of current research interest chosen by the instructor.

Selected Topics (Biol 498)
Selected Topics is intended as an elective for Biology majors. The This course focuses on the in-depth examination of a topic which varies. The specific nature of the topic and its treatment in the course is determined in consultation with the instructor.
