FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF SLIPPERY ROCK AND SRU
HONOR SCHOLARS
SLIPPERY
ROCK, Pa. – Twenty-two high school juniors and 26 seniors
have distinguished themselves academically and qualified for $8,000
scholarships to Slippery Rock University, made possible by a $1
million commitment from The First Bank National of Slippery
Rock. The program aims to keep talented young people in
western Pennsylvania during their college years and
beyond.
Students
have been invited to a special brunch on Saturday with university
President G. Warren Smith, as well as Saturday’s home
football game against Edinboro University.
The
bank in 2000 committed $1 million to The Campaign for Slippery Rock
University to endow The First National Bank of Slippery Rock
Scholars Program. It includes a scholars and leadership development
program that challenges top sophomores and juniors in local high
school. Those earning The First National Bank of Slippery Rock
Scholar distinction at the end of their junior year in high school
receive $8,000 scholarship upon enrollment at Slippery Rock
University. The application fee is waived for all FNB
scholars.
Students
were selected for the program by being the academically top ranked
sophomore in their high school at the end of the year. Scholars
were honored from high schools in Butler, Lawrence, Mercer and
Venango counties.
“There
are many talented young people in this area,” says William C.
Sonntag, president and CEO of The First National Bank of Slippery
Rock. “We are confident that Slippery Rock University will
help them achieve their potential. Hopefully, these outstanding
students will choose to remain in the area and contribute to its
economic and cultural growth.”
