SRU LANGUAGE PROFESSOR
ANNOUNCES TOUR PLANS TO ‘RUSSIA’S GOLDEN
TRADITIONS’ INCLUDING VISITS TO 300-YEAR-OLD ST. PETERSBURG,
MOSCOW AND ‘GOLDEN RING’ CITIES
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Two segments of Russian
culture will be covered when Slippery Rock University offers its
“Russia’s Golden Traditions” trip next summer
highlighting the vitality of 300-year-old St. Petersburg and the
traditions of Moscow and its “Golden Ring” cities. The
tour is open to the public.
Led
by Dr. Charles Tichy, SRU’s expert on Russia and the former
Soviet Union and professor in the modern languages and cultures
department, the June 11-27 trip will feature comprehensive tours of
St. Petersburg, Moscow and the eight cities of the “Golden
Ring.” Founded by Peter the Great in 1703, St.
Petersburg’s visit will be highlighted by stops at all
palaces as the city marks its 300th
anniversary.
The
all-inclusive trip includes a welcoming dinner in St. Petersburg, a
Russian folk performance, a visit to the Moscow circus and dinner
with a Russian family along with guided sightseeing
excursions.
In
organizing the trip, Tichy notes, “It is most important to
visit other nations to show that American citizens will continue in
a positive way to understand other cultures. Our desire for
knowledge and understanding of other cultures is of utmost
importance in the modern world. Through educationally organized
travel we have the opportunity to affirm that we respect the
achievements of others nations. By on-site visits, we confirm that
we are not an isolated people, but a country full of compassionate
and knowledgeable individuals.”
The
$3,989 cost includes flights on Finnair, first-class hotel
accommodations, all transportation, transfer and entrance,
breakfasts and dinners, luggage handling, SRU registration fees and
visa processing charges.
A
detailed brochure and registration form may be obtained by calling
