ORGANIZING ‘A GIFT OF THANKSGIVING’
TO AID LOCAL CHARITIES, FOOD
CUPBOARD AND SCHOLARSHIPS
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – “A Gift in
Thanksgiving,” a special program organized by the
University’s music department, will offer music and words at
the Butler Intermediate High School at 4 p.m. Nov. 24 to benefit
Butler area charities and the University’s Music Scholarship
Fund.
In
addition to performances by SRU’s Chamber Singers, University
Choir, Brass Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and Wind Ensemble, there will
be recitations by Pennsylvania State Rep. Dick Stevenson, Margaret
De Mucci, a member of the Slippery Rock University Foundation,
Inc., board of directors, Rev. Barry Keurulainen of St. Luke
Lutheran Church, Cabot, and Rabbi Sheldon Clarke of New Castle.
Dave Malarky of WISR-Radio will serve as master of
ceremonies.
Organizer
Steve Hawk, associate professor of music, says the event was
inspired by community response to last year’s services and
programs following 9-11.
Tickets
are $10 for the general public and $5 for students. Tickets are
available at the Gallery 164 Bookstore in Slippery Rock, May's
Music in Butler and St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cabot. Those
attending are also asked to bring a non-perishable food item to
benefit the local food cupboard.
