SRU ROTC UNIT PRESENTED TWO
LIBERTY BRIGADE COMMANDER CERTIFICATES
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock
University’s Army Reserve Officer Training Corps program has
received two Liberty Brigade Commander’s Certificates,
including a $1,000 award, for attaining the third-highest mission
percentage within the second brigade.
The
awards were presented by Col. Mark A. Cianchetti, headquartered at
Fort Dix, N.J., who noted the SRU unit, led by Lt. Col. Steven
Stevens, had achieved 164 percent its assigned mission in
commissioning second lieutenants for the year. The cash award will
be used for equipment and cadet travel.
“This
assignment reflects great credit upon the U.S. Army Cadet Command,
the staff and ROTC cadre of Slippery Rock University,”
Cianchetti said. SRU’s ROTC program is ranked in the top 10
percent in the nation.
In
addition, SRU’s 10-member ROTC team, headed by Master Sgt.
Kenneth Howard, placed fifth in competition with 22 other ROTC
teams from New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania at the Ranger
Challenge held at Fort Dix.
