MAINTENANCE OF GRASSY AREAS POLICY

Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to maintain all grassy areas to an established grass height and condition.
 
Objective
Campus grassy areas are used for a variety of purposes including competitive and recreation sports fields, general lawn areas, and meadows.
 
Policy
Competitive sports fields
1. Grass height is maintained at a cutting height of 1 3/8”.
 
2. Weather permitting, fields are cut on a weekly basis, or when grass reaches a height of 2 1/4’’.
 
3. Field marking is completed as per a master schedule provided by the Athletic Department.  Additional or re-scheduled events require a work order.
 

 Recreational sports fields

1. Grass height is maintained at a cutting height of 1 3/8”.
 
2. Weather permitting, fields are cut on a weekly basis, or when grass reaches a height of 2 ½’’.
 
3. Field marking for all camps is completed as per a master schedule provided by the Athletic Department.  Marking for all other events requires a work order.
 

 General lawns

1. Grass height is maintained at a cutting height of 1 3/8”.
 
2. Weather permitting, fields are cut on a weekly basis, or when grass reaches a height of 2 ½’’.
 

 Meadows

1. Grass height is maintained at a cutting height of 2 ½’’ to 3’’.
 
2. Weather permitting, most meadows are cut on a weekly basis.  Certain low use areas are cut on an annual basis.
