Established under the Collaborative for Excellence in Teacher Preparation in Pennsylvania

This Center is under the College of Education and the College of Health, Environment, and Science at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania (SRU) in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. This center works primarily with the departments of Elementary Education/Early Childhood, Secondary Education/Foundations of Education, Special Education, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and Geography, Geology, and the Environment.

Slippery Rock University is one of fourteen universities in the State System of Higher Education (SSHE). This Center began as part of the system-wide Collaborative for Excellence in Teacher Preparation in Pennsylvania (CETP-PA) funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2000.

As part of CETP-PA, activities of the SRU team have included conducting workshops, reforming curricula, and making presentations.

Goals of the Center for Mathematics, Science, and 

Technology Education:

Improve the teaching and learning of mathematics and science at the pre-college level.
Improve the teaching and learning of science and mathematics at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Increase awareness of careers related to mathematics and science, assist students in deciding to pursue these careers, and help retain students who have begun preparation for these careers.
Disseminate information about Center accomplishments.
Evaluate and increase the effectiveness of the Center in meeting Goals one through four.



Design and construction of this web site owes much to the following individuals:
Kathleen Gianneschi, who earned her B.S. in Chemistry and her M.Ed. in Secondary Education at SRU.
Greg Hites, who earned his B.S. in Biology and his M.Ed. in Secondary Education at SRU.
Eric Vogan, who earned his B.S. in Physics at Clarion University, and took graduate courses in Secondary Education at SRU.
Nicole Shook, who earned her B.S. in Chemistry at Wheeling Jesuit University and her M.Ed. in Secondary Education at SRU.
Andrew Schweikert, who earned his B.S. in Software Engineering at Robert Morris University and is currently enrolled in the M.Ed. in Secondary Education at SRU.
