SRU’S ALUMNI ASSOCIATION BOOKSTORE
TO SPOTLIGHT PAINTINGSOF TWO AREA HIGH SCHOOL ART TEACHERS
FEB. 4-APRIL 11
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – “Space and Light,” a
landscape painting showcase, will highlight the works of two area
high school art teachers at the next Gallery 164 Bookstore
exhibition. The bookstore/art gallery is a project of the Slippery
Rock University Alumni Association, offered in conjunction with
Slippery Rock’s downtown redevelopment.
The
Feb. 4-April 11 exhibition will feature the works of Nancy
Kneupper, who attended SRU and teaches art at Slippery Rock High
School, along with works by Thomas McNickle, a 30-year art
instructor at Neshannock Township School District who now teaches
painting at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown,
Ohio.
An
artists’ opening reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb.
7 at the gallery located at 164 S. Main St.
Kneupper
has shown her work in Ireland and throughout western Pennsylvania.
Her paintings scheduled for the bookstore showing are based on her
trip to Wyoming.
McNickle
conducts workshops, lectures and demonstrations across the
northeastern U.S., and has exhibited at the Butler,
Pittsburgh’s Gallery G, the Jerald Melberg Gallery in
Charlotte, N.C., and both Cudahy’s Gallery and the David
Findlay, Jr., Gallery in New York City. His work has also been seen
in more than 100 national juried and invitational exhibitions as
well as at the National Watercolor Society and The American Artist
Grand National Exhibition. His works for this show depict the quiet
places of Pennsylvania’s countryside.
The
gallery/bookstore is a joint business venture involving the SRU
Alumni Association and the SGA Bookstore. Its displays and
children’s story hours are drawing shoppers and visitors to
the downtown as part of the ongoing downtown revitalization
efforts.
