EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University (5-8) used a
three-pronged offensive attack to turn back upset-minded East
Stroudsburg University (1-12) and score a 57-54 victory Sunday in
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference interdivisional "crossover"
women's basketball action.
Senior guard Missy McKavish led
The Rock attack with 19 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore
forward Stacey Green added 18
points and 12 rebounds and sophomore center Erin Frankovich had 10 points and 10
rebounds.
The Rock trailed by 11 points, 45-34, with 14:37 left in the game
before it went on a 23-9 run to finish the game.
Sunday's win gave SRU a 4-3 record in the PSAC crossover series
this winter and a 14-7 mark in games against Eastern Division
rivals since the mandatory interdivisional schedule was adopted
three seasons ago.
The Rock returns to action on Wednesday when it opens PSAC-Western
Division action with a 6 p.m. game vs. Edinboro University in
Morrow Field House.
Men's basketball loses at ESU -- Guards Bill Johnson and Shaun Grill scored 16 and 13 points,
respectively, in a losing cause as The Rock men's team (5-6) lost a
79-69 PSAC crossover decision at East Stroudsburg (4-8).
The Rock trailed by 14 points, 36-22, at halftime and by 28 points,
64-36) with 9:46 left to play before closing the final gap. SRU
closed to within eight, 76-68, with 1:36 left in the game.
The loss gave The Rock a 2-5 mark in PSAC crossover action this
winter.
The Rock men also return to action on Wednesday when they host
Edinboro in an 8 p.m. PSAC-Western Division game at Morrow Field
House.
