DOVER, Del. -- Slippery Rock University rolled past three
opponents and claimed the team title Saturday in the NCAA Division
I East Regional Duals competition hosted by Delaware State
University.
The Rock (4-7 in dual-match action) defeated Millersville (26-14),
Delaware State (35-9) and Duquesne (31-6).
Four wrestlers who each recorded three wins during Saturday's
action paced the Rock effort.
Senior 125-pounder Adam Renner
recorded a pair of decisions (4-1 and 11-3) and got his third win
via a forfeit vs. Delaware State to even his seasonal record at
10-10.
Sophomore 149-pounder Brad
Cieleski totally dominated his opponents as he recorded
two major decisions and came close to getting a third. His wins
came by scores of 16-0, 22-5 and 17-5. Cieleski now owns a
team-best 16-7 record this winter.
Senior 184-pounder John Opfar
pinned his Delaware State rival and
won decisions in the other two bouts to improve his record to
5-10.
Senior heavyweight Bob McKillop
improved his record to 10-8 with a pair of pins and a 6-4
decision.
Sophomore 157-pounder Jason
Cardillo, senior 141-pounder D.J. Clark and 133-pounder Brian Gross each recorded a pair of wins on
Saturday.
Cardillo and Clark both now own a 4-7 record this winter, while
Gross is 4-11.
Sophomore Jason Smith won the 165-pound bout and sophomore Justin
Stamm recorded the win at 174 pounds vs. Delaware State, while
senior Corey Hart won the 197-pound match vs. Duquesne to round out
The Rock's individual winners.
The Rock is idle until Jan. 24-25 when it will compete in the
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships at
Millersville University. SRU will then host Gannon in a 7 p.m.
match on Jan. 29 in Morrow Field House.
