Vicki Wilson involved in two
record-setting performances
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Senior Vicki
Wilson set an individual-event school record and swam
the lead leg of a pool-record-setting relay Saturday to lead the
Slippery Rock University's women's swimming team to a 105.5-87.5
win over visiting Edinboro University.
The win was The Rock women's fifth in as many dual meets this
winter and extended their current win streak to 15 dual meets.
The Rock men lost a 92-73 decision to Edinboro and fell to 1-4 on
the year.
Wilson had a winning time of 53.88 seconds in the 100-yard
freestyle to trim 30/100ths of a second off the school mark of
54.18 set by Sammy Junod in
2000-01.
Wilson also led off the winning 200 freestyle relay, which set a
Morrow Field House pool record with a time of 1:40.27. That time
trimmed 60/100ths of a second off the school mark set one week ago
by the same quartet: Wilson, sophomore Sherri Scobie-Henry, junior Kelly Williams and sophomore Jen Zuzack.
Wilson also won the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.75.
Sophomore Rachel Stultz also
recorded a pair of individual first-place finishes as she won the
200 individual medley (2:21.32) and 100 butterfly (1:00.87).
Stultz also swam the third leg of the winning 200 medley relay
(1:57.01). Joining her on the relay were junior Shannon Holt, Scobie-Henry and Williams.
Other individual-event winners for The Rock included senior
Jessica Gerhart in the 1000
freestyle (11:36.62) and Zuzack in the 200 freestyle (2:01.92).
Senior Tony Mehalic won both
the 50 (22.51) and 100 (49.00) freestyle individual events and swam
the lead leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:38.56) for The
Rock men.
Freshman Aaron Chapple won the
100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.26 and was on the winning
relay team, while Paul Broskey
won the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:24.74.
Joining Mehalic and Chappelle on the winning relay team were
sophomores Gayan Ondaatjie and
Dalibor Holko.
The Rock swim teams return to action on Saturday, Feb. 1, when they
will host Indiana University of Pa. in a 1 p.m. meet at Morrow
Field House.
