The Incumbency vs. Estimated Availability Detail, Work Force Availability Detail and Annual Placement Goals were compiled using the Peopleclick Affirmative Action Planner software recommended by the State System of Higher Education.  Availability figures are based on the 1990 census due to the unavailability of 2000 census data when this plan was prepared.

As of October 31, 2001, Slippery Rock University had a total of 877 employees, including temporary and wage employees. Of the total employees, 50.74 percent were women and 7.2 percent, minorities. For purposes of comparison, in 2000 there were 49.59 percent women and 6.85 percent minorities.  Minority employees included: African Americans, 3.6 percent of the workforce; Latinos, 0.7 percent; Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders, 2.6 percent; and Native Americans, 0.3 percent.

Overall, the utilization rate for women employees at Slippery Rock University is quite good, accounting for slightly more than half of the workforce.  However, we still see significant underutilization in particular departments and job groups.  In the H10 job group (executives, administrators, managers) based on availability, we should have 8.5 more women than we do.  The other area of concern for women is in H60 (skilled crafts) where we have no women and based on availability should have 10.3.

Total minorities are significantly underutilized in the H10 group.  There is only one person of color in the group and considering availability we should have 5.8.  In the H20 group (faculty) we have 41 total minorities where we would expect to have 65.5.  In H30 (professionals, non-faculty) there are nine minority incumbents rather than the 12.4 we would expect to see based on availability.

Within the individual minority groups, African Americans, Latinos and Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders are all under-utilized in the H10 area.  There are no Native Americans, but given the small availability figure, no goal is set for them.  H20 is also lacking in African American, Latino and Asian American/Pacific Islander participation.  Underutilization is particularly significant for Latinos with an 80 percent ratio of 29.69 percent.

There are no Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders represented in the H30 area.  African Americans are underutilized there as well.
