» $1,000 Scholarship Awarded PE Major
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Tiffiny B. Thompson a senior physical education major from Vienna, Ohio, has been named recipient of Slippery Rock University’s $1,000 Colette S. Garrison Scholarship.

» 'New Terrain' Dance Concert Set Jan. 30-Feb. 1
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s Dance Theater will explore “New Terrain” in a three-performance showcase featuring guest artist Bridget Moore along with Nora Ambrosio, a member of the university’s dance faculty, and student choreographers and dancers.

» 'Saturday Showcases' Set for Prospective Students
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – With interest in Slippery Rock University soaring, the Office of Admission has scheduled three “Saturday Showcase” open houses for prospective students and their families. Each showcase begins in the morning and runs through early afternoon, giving high school students a chance to experience campus, meet faculty and plug into Rock athletics and clubs.

» 27 SRU Students Named to Special Education Honorary
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Twenty-seven Slippery Rock University students have been inducted into Sigma Pi Epsilon Delta, the national special education honorary at recent campus ceremonies. Membership in the service-based fraternity requires the student to have completed nine or more credit hours in special education courses and hold a 3.25 or higher grade-point average. 

» 4 SRU Students Qualify for National Black Student Leadership Conference
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University helps students build leadership skills through a variety of programs, campus activities and conferences.  Among the university’s high achievers are four students chosen to attend a national leadership conference featuring prominent African-American speakers and workshops on “meeting the challenge of leadership in uncertain times.”

» Award-winning Journalist to Discuss Wrongful Prosecutions at SRU; Public Welcome
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Investigative journalist Bill Moushey, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, will share his insight into wrongful prosecutions when he gives a free speech at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday [Feb. 4] at Slippery Rock University's Spotts World Culture Building. The public is invited.

» EDITOR'S ADVISORY: Haircut for Charity
At 7 p.m. tonight [Jan. 27], Adam Ward, a Slippery Rock University junior, will get his first haircut since enrolling at the university more than two years ago. The hair will be donated to Locks of Love, an organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children with medical hair loss.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's new library director, Philip Tramdack, will shepherd a major technology upgrade at Bailey Library, including installation of 30 new computers and 36 laptops.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day will be marked at Slippery Rock University with a two-day “Three-on-Three Basketball Tournament” held to support the local Feed My Sheep Food Cupboard and as a way of showing area students that community service can be fun.

» Rock Stronghold: New Athletic Training Major Approved
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education board of governors has approved an athletic training major for Slippery Rock University, a move that will enhance the credentials of Rock graduates seeking employment as high school, clinic, college or professional athletic trainers.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – “Space and Light,” a landscape painting showcase, will highlight the works of two area high school art teachers at the next Gallery 164 Bookstore exhibition. The bookstore/art gallery is a project of the Slippery Rock University Alumni Association, offered in conjunction with Slippery Rock’s downtown redevelopment.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – When Garry W. Benford, a nationally respected physical fitness leader, enrolled at Slippery Rock University 30 years ago, he turned part of his attention to barbell lifting – a passion he credits with boosting his academics and self-esteem. His continuing passion is now providing Rock athletics with a weight-training center, and physical education majors with an annual $1,000 academic scholarship.

» SRU Student Ends 30-Month Avoidance of Haircuts to Help Children with Hair Loss
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- An off-hand challenge from a friend headed to the Army and facing the dreaded haircut was all Adam Ward, a Slippery Rock University secondary education major, needed to launch a 30-month avoidance of haircuts. The "growing" ended Monday when Ward had his hair cut to benefit children facing medical-related hair loss.

» SRU Student from Fredonia Named 'Outstanding Future Professional' by Statewide Group
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Crystal Lynn Drew, a senior health and physical education major at Slippery Rock University from Fredonia, has been named recipient of the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance “Outstanding Future Professional Award.”

» SRU Student from Somerset Earns Second Scholarship
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s Patrick Polcha, a senior physical education major from Somerset has received his second Violet Baumgardner Scholarship from the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance in salute of his leadership, campus involvement and strong academic standing.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s Heather Radcliffe, a senior physical education major from Slippery Rock, has been awarded the $1,500 Boccio Family Scholarship for her performance in the classroom and her involvement in intercollegiate athletics.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Major technology equipment purchases at Slippery Rock University will place additional interactive communication systems, hand-held computers, laptops and digital cameras in a number of classrooms, including physics, chemistry, geology, geography and dance.
