ADMISSIONS PLANNER
You and your parents are welcome to visit Slippery Rock University at any point during high school. Many students begin visiting campuses in the spring of their junior year in high school. We are open all summer, so visiting at that time is an option as well. Seniors in high school often visit campus in the fall and take part in either group presentations or Saturday Showcase. Review our visit page for the option that works best for you.
Spring of your junior year: Begin to narrow down what you want in a school…. consider size, location, reputation, admission requirements, etc. If you are considering attending The Rock, visit campus as part of a group visit day which are held Monday through Friday, or attend a Spring Saturday Showcase Program. You will also want to arrange to take a standardized test (either the SAT or the ACT) during this time.
Summer after your junior year: visit college campuses if you have not done so already… and you if are considering The Rock, check out our Summer Preview Days offered in June. If your schedule is packed for June, that’s okay, we’ll look forward to seeing you in July as part of our Special Career Day visit program.
Fall of your senior year: arrange to take an SAT or ACT if you have not done so already… begin to gather applications from the schools you are interested in (many schools, like SRU, offer an on line application). We gladly accept either the on line application or a paper application. SRU has a rolling admissions process. Please apply for admission prior to December 1 if you are interested in being considered for an academic scholarship.
If you are offered admission to SRU, you will also receive a scholarship brochure/application. It is very important you complete and return it because the SRU general scholarship deadline is February 15 of your senior year. We will ask that you submit a $90 enrollment deposit which will secure your seat in the freshman class. The $90 is refundable prior to May 1 unless you attend an Early Orientation Program.
After the $90 enrollment deposit has been received, the office of Orientation will send you a brochure inviting you and your parents to take part in one of the three spring programs. It is during that time that you will meet your future classmates, receive a copy of your class schedule for your first semester.
You need to complete the FAFSA form sometime after January 1 of your senior year regardless of where you are going to attend college. SRU’s information may be found here.
Housing (Residence Life) will also get in touch with you with a booklet as a result of us receiving your deposit. Directions will be provided in the booklet as to how to register for a room on line. You will be asked to submit a second deposit ($175) to secure your room. All freshmen must live on campus unless they are within “reasonable commuting distance.”
