 Early Arrival

If you have an extenuating circumstance that may require your arrival before the stated date for check-in, you should place your request via MyHousing portal. Login to MyHousing portal and complete the Move In Early Request form and your request will be reviewed.  We discourage early arrivals since the residence life staff are very busy prior to your arrival. There is a non-refundable early arrival fee of $21.05 per night if you are approved to arrive early.

 Checking-in

Fill out your Student Information form online at MyHousing Portal before August 20th. This will be one less thing you will need to do at check in!

Students, as you arrive on campus, we recommend the following for a quick and pleasant move-in experience:
  • Watch for signs that will direct you to your residence hall. Traffic patterns may be different on move-in day.

  • When you arrive at your hall, the driver should stay with the vehicle and wait for directions from the WOW (Week of Welcome) Volunteers regarding where to unload and park.

  • While you are waiting to unload, proceed into your residence hall and check-in. Your residence hall check in will include:

  • Turn in your completed Meningitis form. If you have returned this to the Student Health Center you can skip this step. I you did not complete this you will be asked to sign a waver at check-in. You can always change this later at the Student Health Center.

  • Pay your $15 House Council Activity Fee. Five dollars of you activity fee is placed in the hall damage fund and is used to pay for common area damages that can not be assessed to individuals responsible. Money left over is used to purchase hall improvements such as pool tables, games, and vacuums. Ten dollars of your activity fee is used to provide residence hall programs such as picnics, Super Bowl parties and hall trips.

  • Provide a photo ID to proceed. The Residence Life Welcome Assistant will keep your secondary (Driver's License or Photo) ID until you complete and return your Room Condition Report Form.

  • Receive your Room Condition Report Form and room key. Students in Buildings A, B, D, E, F, and Watson will use their student ID to enter their residence hall room.

  • While those assisting you are unloading the vehicle you may want to visit your new room, meet your new room/suite mate(s) and complete your Room Condition Report form. Return RCR form to the check-in area to retrieve your secondary photo ID.

  • Move your items to your new room and get settled into your new home. Your Community Assistant will stop in to introduce theirselves and see if you have any questions. Be sure to do the following:

    - Set up your voice mail (for assistance call Ext. 6800)

    - Check your room key in all door locks and your mailbox (report problems to residence life staff member)

    - Make sure your student ID works in the hall front door card reader.

    - Set up your computer and make sure you have internet access. Call the HELP desk (x4357) for assistance.

    - Complete your section of the roommate agreement.

    - Find the laundry room, study lounge, social lounge (look for the TV), your community Assistant's room, the hall office, information bulletin boards, and hall bathrooms.

    - Say hello to your new neighbors and good bye to those who helped you move in.

    - Get ready for WOW (Week of Welcome).

Those students requesting an exemption for religious or other reasons must sign the vaccination waiver. If the student is under the age of 18, they must have a parent or guardian also sign.

 Make it Easy for Yourself

If you live within a two-hour drive of Slippery Rock, you can make move-in day easier by just bringing the essentials including clothes to last two weeks. Some time during those two weeks, you can either pick up the rest of your things on a trip home, or invite your parents to campus to take you out to dinner. By that time, you'll have a good idea of what you really need from home and what can realistically fit into your room.
