» 500 Budding Junior High, High School Scientists to Visit SRU for Competition
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The top junior high and senior high science projects presented by students from throughout western Pennsylvania will be in competition Saturday [March 1] when Slippery Rock University again hosts the Region IX, Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science spring meeting. The top prize is an $8,000 scholarship to SRU.

» Alcohol-free, Mix-off will Show SRU Students How to Have Fun
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s third annual “All-Campus Alcohol-Free Mix-Off” featuring popular tropical drinks and rock music will be held in the pool area of the Robert N. Aebersold Student Recreation Center from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday [March 3] and is expected to draw some 500 students.

» Community Garden Plots Available at SRU's Macoskey Center
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Organic gardening plots are available for public and student use at SRU’s Robert A. Macoskey Center for Sustainable Systems Education and Research. Interested person may garden individually or in groups. A donation of $20 to $30 is suggested for community members.

» EDITOR'S ADVISORY: World Langauge Competition Set for Tuesday
 Just a quick reminder that more than 1,500 students (the number has increased) from some 35 regional high schools will be on the Slippery Rock University campus Tuesday [Feb. 11] showing off their language skills as part of SRU’s department of modern languages and cultures “World Language Competition.” The event will offer feature photo opportunities – and a chance to spotlight the importance of undertaking a second language in high school.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Dr. Renay Scales, whose employee and campuswide training programs at Kutztown University won a “best practice” award from the U.S. Office for Civil Rights, has been hired as Slippery Rock University’s assistant vice president for human resources and diversity.

» Opportunities for Certified Teachers Set for North Hills Center Open House
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A Principalship Certification Program for teachers and several other post-baccalaureate programs will be the focus of an open house for the public from 4 to 6 p.m. March 20 at Slippery Rock University’s North Hills Center, Route 910 in Wexford.

» Rock Students to Share Geologic Research with Members of U.S. Congress
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Three Slippery Rock University students who researched landscape development in Badlands National Park, S.D., have been invited to present their research to the U.S. Congress via a symposium. Students will summarize their work and attend a reception in the nation’s capital April 1.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The 58-voice Slippery Rock University Concert Choir will be featured at the Butler County Symphony Orchestra’s “All American Concert” set for Feb. 15 at Butler Intermediate High School Auditorium.

» Sophocles' Age-Old Play 'Oedipus Rex' Gets Facelift, Music and Dance at SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Written some 500 years B.C., Sophocles’ tragic detective story “Oedipus Rex” is getting a facelift in its five-performance Slippery Rock University production which will feature marionette-like characters in full mask and costume along with newly created music and dance. The show opens Wednesday [Feb. 26] in Miller Auditorium.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A look inside the famed Nuremberg Trials presented by a lead prosecutor against one of the most notorious criminals of World War II and a historical review of genocide will be detailed when Slippery Rock University presents a two-part “Holocaust Remembrance Program.”

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Four Slippery Rock University coaches will turn their playbooks in for menus as they become the Wolf Creek School Café wait staff Feb. 26 helping raise funds to support “Care Break 2003,” a program that will offer community service in five cities across the nation over spring break.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University graduate Tim McCord, chair of the health and physical education department at Titusville Area School District, has become a nationally recognized supporter and spokesman for a wellness-based curriculum known as "New P.E." McCord has been quoted in Newsweek, Time, U.S. News & World Report, Ladies Home Journal, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and The Plain Dealer (Cleveland).

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The personal – and moving – stories of 21 children, adolescents and adults from around the world who have undergone psychodynamic music therapy provide the basis of a new book edited by Dr Susan J. Hadley, assistant professor of music at Slippery Rock University.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s Institute for Learning in Retirement, a program for mature adults interested in continuing their education, opens a fifth term of non-credit classes with a 3 p.m. Kick-Off Party March 14 in its newly renovated Center for Lifelong and Community Learning in downtown Slippery Rock.
