SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery
Rock University’s softball team dropped both ends of a
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division
doubleheader on Thursday as Edinboro University recorded 2-0 and
5-4 wins.
The losses came on the heels of a pair of losses on Wednesday at
nationally ranked California U. of Pa. and dropped The Rock to
7-11, 0-4. The Rock had won five straight games prior to the losses
at California.
Edinboro improved to 10-10, 2-2.
Sophomore catcher Shannon Bullard (Boyertown/Boyertown
HS) had a pair of hits in each game to lead The Rock
attack. She had one of The Rock’s two doubles in the second
game.
SRU had six hits in the first game and eight in the second
game.
Junior shortstop Lori Slozat (Meadville/Meadville HS)
also had a pair of hits in the second game, including a double.
Senior right-hander Nikki Cothran (Kansas City, Mo./Sumner
Academy) was the losing pitcher in the first game and fell
to 2-3 on the year after she allowed one earned run on seven hits
and walked one in five innings. Sophomore right-hander Candice
Nase (Telford/Souderton HS) allowed one unearned run on
two hits and struck out one in the final two innings.
Freshman right-hander Laura Campbell (Grindstone/Geibel
Catholic) dropped to 2-2 on the year after she allowed five
runs (one earned) on nine hits, struck out two and walked four in a
seven-inning complete-game effort.
The Rock returns to action Saturday when it travels to Clarion for
a 1 p.m. PSAC-West doubleheader.
