ROCK TRACK AND FIELD SWEEPS TRIANGULAR TITLES
SLIPPERY
ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University women’s track
and field standouts Kristen Jones and Linsey
Westerman each had a hand in four event wins Saturday to lead
SRU to a sweep of first-place finishes in a Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference outdoor track and field triangular meet at N.
Kerr Thompson Stadium.
Westerman (sr., Freeport/Freeport HS) improved her NCAA
national championship provisional qualifying time in winning the
100 hurdles with a time of 14.62, won the 400 hurdles with a time
of 62.97 and ran a leg of the winning 4X100 (49.42) and 4X400
(4:03.77) relay teams.
Jones
(Enola/Bible Baptist) won the long jump (18-4.5), 100
(12.48), 200 (26.44) and triple jump (37-10.25). She had
personal-best efforts.
Mackenzie
Gurcak (Pittsburgh/Baldwin HS) was a double winner in
the shot put (40-10.5) and discus (136-0.5).
Behind the lead of
Jones, Westerman and Gurcak, The Rock women beat Mansfield and
California U. of Pa. by a 176-69-11 score.
Ben Steingrabe (jr., Hermitage/West Middlesex HS) won
two individual events and ran on the winning 4X400 relay (3:27.18)
to lead the SRU men to a 151-110-75 win over Mansfield and
California.
Steingrabe
won the 110 hurdles (14.87) and 200 (21.81).
Eric Jones won the shot put (47-10) and discus (131-7), while
Andy Tessena (so., Smethport/Smethport HS) won the
400 hurdles (55.12) and ran on the winning 4X400 relay to finish as
double winners and complement Steingrabe’s effort.
