ROCK WOMEN’S WATER POLO
PLACES EIGHTH IN SOUTHERN CHAMPIONSHIPS
LEWISBURG,
Pa. – Slippery Rock University lost its final three
matches over the weekend to finish in eighth place in the Southern
Championships women’s water polo competition hosted by
Bucknell University.
The
Rock opened competition with an 11-4 win over Mercyhurst on Friday
but then dropped successive matches to Michigan (18-3), Bucknell
(14-3) and Gannon (6-5).
The
Rock will take a 23-11 record into its regular-season finale on
April 22 vs. Mercyhurst at Penn State-Behrend in Erie.
Junior
Shannon Holt (Sinking Spring/Wilson HS) scored nine
goals in the four Rock games, while senior Karolyn Kiefer
(Elmhurst, Ill./York HS) scored six.
Holt
has now scored a team-high 96 goals this spring, while Kiefer is
second on the team with 73.
Freshman
Amanda Zychowski (Emlenton/Allegheny-Clarion Valley
HS) had two goals over the weekend to improve her season
total to 19.
Junior
Kim Adams (Erie/McDowell HS), sophomore Diana Buck
(Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley HS), sophomore Sarah
Ennis (Grove City/Grove City HS), sophomore Bridgette
Rhoades (Girard/Girard HS) and sophomore Jen Zuzack
(Latrobe/Greater Latrobe HS) each scored one goal last
weekend.
Adams
has scored 31 goals this winter, Zuzack 21, Rhoades eight, Buck
four and Ennis three.
Senior
goalie Lynn Boutin (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley
HS) recorded 30 saves in the four weekend games to improve
her season total to 353.
